Manhattan has no shortage of Italian restaurants, but surely Rita Sodi runs two of the most beloved ones. Just down the street from Via Carota, this cozy, buzzy hotspot remains a difficult reservation to score so consider planning on an early-hour walk-in. The kitchen watches the seasons closely in daily specials like grilled tomato and burrata, while also respecting that some signatures can never leave the menu. The perfectly layered lasagna is a must for first timers, and it contrasts wonderfully with a citrusy tangle of pappardelle al limon. Regardless of where you sit – bar, dining room, or further back – the neighborhood restaurant is a constant hive of activity, fueled in part by a busy bar that knows its way around a Negroni.
