Set on the banks of the River Main in Frankfurt, this restaurant tastefully blends the classic flair of the old building in which it is housed – beautiful high stucco ceilings, herringbone floorboards – with modern minimalist design. The cuisine draws on the Lohninger family's Austrian roots as well as Asian and Mediterranean influences, and the menu has been divided into two sections accordingly: "Die Heimat" (homeland) and "Die Welt" (the world). The dishes stand out for their finesse, intense flavours and the quality of the ingredients; chef-patron Mario Lohninger and his kitchen team are careful to avoid gimmickry and place the emphasis on flavour. This holds for both classics and signature dishes such as Carinthian Schlutzkrapfen (high-Alpine cheese ravioli), Imperial and Royal ox cheek goulash, or Spencer Gulf kingfish sashimi with foie gras, pickled vegetables and a buttermilk and horseradish dressing. The front-of-house team is friendly, attentive and pleasingly relaxed and down-to-earth – anything but stuffy.
