Berangkat means ‘beginnings’ in Indonesian, apt for a restaurant serving creative interpretations of cuisine the owner-chef studied in Southeast Asia. Consider, for example, shiraae dressed with coriander, pidan and Szechuan pickles, drizzled with homemade chilli oil. The grilled meat in cinnamon soy sauce borrows from the fare of the street stalls of Vietnam. The Okinawa cuisine, from the owner-chef’s experiences on Ishigakijima Island, is another of the restaurant’s fortes.
