Because everyone needs a break from the urban hustle and bustle.

New York City by The MICHELIN Guide

See the New York City guide

Even the most urbane city dwellers need a break from the hustle and bustle of New York every now and then. And between the bucolic pleasures of the Catskills and Hudson Valley, the beaches along Long Island, and the furthest reaches of the Adirondack Mountains, you can't say New Yorkers lack options when it comes time to get out of town.

Below, we've collected five MICHELIN hotels with the highest feedback scores from real travelers — based on reviews from verified guests who booked through our platform.

Each of these hotels is guest approved, MICHELIN approved, and in driving distance of the Big Apple. Enjoy your escape.

The Roxbury

The Roxbury

The Catskills

Just under three hours from New York City, a few miles to the north and west of the famous town of Woodstock, enter the Roxbury and you're in for a surprise. Plenty of hotels call themselves “playful,” but few have anything that even begins to approach something like the Roxbury’s Archeologist’s Digs suite, with its secret passageways, its Mayan Temple–inspired bedroom, its fish swimming in a saltwater aquarium alongside the glass-walled shower, and more than a few details that are simply beyond description.

Troutbeck
Troutbeck

Troutbeck

Hudson Valley

Troutbeck didn’t just wake up one morning and decide to style itself a creative retreat — it’s been walking the walk for well over a century, having welcomed Mark Twain, Ralph Waldo Emerson, and Henry David Thoreau, and many others along the way. And while this estate, in Amenia, two hours from Manhattan, has seen some changes over the years — Benton Cottage dates back to 1760, while the 17th-century Manor House was rebuilt in 1919 — it’s perhaps most remarkable for its continuity.

Eastwind
Eastwind

Eastwind - Hotel & Bar

The Catskills

It's co-owned by a German/Lithuanian couple who saw a bit of their own childhood in the landscapes and lodges of upstate New York, and who redesigned this 1920s-era lodge (and its outlying A-frame cabins) with an eye toward Scandinavian modernist style. The result is a sort of high-design summer-camp vibe, with more than a touch of luxury.

Gurney's Montauk
Gurney's Montauk

Gurney's Montauk

Montauk

As is the case in Montauk generally, the beach is the the main draw at Gurney’s. And you don’t have to worry about fighting for a spot to lay down your towel, because Gurney’s guests have private access to 2,000 feet of Atlantic sand and surf. Soak it up: no other resort out here has oceanfront property. The Beach Club on the premises makes it easy to relax, with king-sized daybeds, beach chairs, and all the warm-weather cocktails you need. And if you prefer to swim in a pool instead of an ocean, Gurney’s indoor pool — the only one of its kind on the continent — uses local seawater that’s sand-filtered and warmed to the perfect temperature.
