Wake me up when September ends, American rock band Green Day famously sang. If life is a giant playlist, then these are fitting lyrics for the exciting new road trip we’re about to embark on with you, dear Michelin Guide followers and readers.
My team and I are so thrilled to finally present to you - starting right this month - the brand new gourmet lifestyle editorial section of our guide.michelin.com.hk website. Like dai pai dong hawkers who start cranking up their stoves before the first light of dawn, we, too, have been hard at work tweaking and re-tweaking the recipes for our very first serving, and we hope you’ll find plenty here to get out of bed for every morning.
Designed by Robert Parker Wine Advocate in partnership with The Michelin Group to complement the Michelin Guide’s eventful nine-year run in Hong Kong and Macau, the Michelin Guide Hong Kong Macau website is the only bilingual lifestyle editorial platform that is officially endorsed by Michelin. It marks the progressive coming together of two of the world’s most established and powerful names in the food and wine circles, on an integrated, media-rich platform. We unveiled a Singapore edition earlier this year to rousing success, and we hope extend the same one-stop convenience to all of you ravenous diners in Hong Kong and Macau - by satiating not just your hunger but your curiosity about what goes on beyond the dining table.
Check back daily to find meaty reads on the latest food trends and chefs to watch in Hong Kong, Macau and beyond, or to book a seat at our prestigious Michelin Dining Series of events. This includes the very first of our regular International Chef Showcase featuring chef Julien Royer of two-Michelin-starred Odette in Singapore, and, of course, the prestigious 2016 Michelin and Robert Parker Gala Dinner - the inaugural Michelin gala dinner on the two territories - both organised with the kind support of our title partner, Melco Crown Entertainment.
In our gourmet lifestyle section, particularly, you will find a dynamic feed of fresh, locally sourced content on everything related to food: from trendspotting articles on the latest ingredients and techniques to watch out for in our News & Views and Dining Out sections, to personal tips from Michelin chefs and prominent food industry experts on how to recreate the Michelin experience at home in Dining In.
In our Features section, you’ll find topical discussions and exclusive insights on the Michelin brand, from how we tracked down a food-obsessed couple who not only to live to eat, but to eat in Michelin-starred restaurants specifically; to an insiders' look at how Michelin's group of global inspectors divide and schedule their restaurant visits.
And in our People section, expect interviews with top chefs from around the world and prominent food personalities, from heavyweight restaurateurs, fine-dining chefs to humble street food hawkers listed in the Michelin Guide Hong Kong and Macau and beyond. Hungry for more? Don't miss our Travel section for delicious chef travelogues and round-ups of Michelin-recommended eats in foodie destinations near and far.
But beyond the stars, the celebrity chefs, and the glamour of it all, we also want to celebrate the everyday food hero: the local farmers, food artisans and young and hungry food entrepreneurs who help to make our two territories the thriving dining hub that it is, and has always been.
And of course, we want to celebrate you, because good food always tastes better when you’re with the right company. Whether you’re a professional chef, an avid home cook or - like pretty much everyone in Hong Kong and Macau - you simply love to eat, we want you to be part of our growing online food community, and our brand new digital journey.
As with the adventurous drivers and diners who have trusted in the Michelin Guide to help them uncover treasured finds all these years, we invite you to join us yet again on our quest to chart new territory in Hong Kong and Macau. We hope you’ll like what you find here as much as we loved putting it together - and that you’ll bookmark some personal gems to keep you coming back again, and again, and again.
This one’s for you. Santé!
