The First MICHELIN Key Hotels: All the Keys in Thailand

The MICHELIN Guide announces top honors for Thai hotels in 2024.

On September 25, 2024, the MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in Thailand.

This announcement comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.

Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our Inspectors, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys are our most outstanding hotels.

In total, the 2024 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection in Thailand includes a total of 8 Three Key hotels, 19 Two Key hotels, and 31 One Key hotels. Want to know more about the MICHELIN Key? Here’s everything you need to know. Or, head below to look at all the Keys.

Thailand's Three Key Club

Eight properties earned our highest hotel honor in Thailand, the exclusive Three Key distinction. Of these, four hotels represent the very best of Thailand’s world-renowned seaside resorts. Nor are they all clustered on one blessed stretch of coastline. In Thailand, these four hotels (Amanpuri, Phulay Bay, Samujana Villas, and Soneva Kiri) are found all throughout the country, spanning thousands of miles and two seas.

Outside those spectacular oceanside suites and villas, we find four more Three Key hotels. Itself not far from the sea, Keemala is set in treehouse accommodations amidst the jungle of Phuket. In the mountainside, you’ll find the impeccable service and luxe design of the Four Seasons Resort Chiang Mai. The list rounds out in Bangkok with the incredibly storied Mandarin Oriental and the Art Deco-influenced The Siam.

Unparalleled Creativity in One of Asia’s Top Tourist Destinations

Thailand is one of the most visited countries in Asia — and hotels go all out to stand out. The InterContinental Khao Yai Resort is a lakeside jungle escape where suites and villas are built from upcycled train cars. Iniala Beach House is a high-design collaboration by 11 almost avant-garde designers. Even the skyscrapers showcase fantastic imagination. Look no further than Rosewood Bangkok. Designed at a sharp angle, it’s meant to resemble the wai, a traditional Thai greeting.

17 Keys in Bangkok

17 hotels gained Keys in Bangkok, making up nearly a third of the selections on today’s list. Included are an impressive crop of design-forward skyscraper hotels. We’ve already mentioned the Rosewood Bangkok — it’s joined by other towers like the Okura Prestige Bangkok, The Standard Bangkok, Oriental Residence and the InterContinental Bangkok. Breaking the mold is the Four Seasons Hotel Bangkok at Chao Phraya River, a mid-rise complex designed by the legendary Aman designer Jean-Michel Gathy (his most famous work may be Amanpuri in Phuket, the very first Aman hotel — and today honored with Three Keys in Phuket).
