In the first months of 2025, The MICHELIN Guide made not one, but two major announcements in Portugal. First, Inspectors released the latest selection of Star restaurants in the country. Then, for the first time ever, came the announcement of the country's hotel Keys—the hospitality equivalent of the Star. Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa (Three Keys) + Ocean (Two Stars)
PorchesThe pinnacle of luxury resorts in the Algarve has a name: Vila Vita Parc Resort & Spa, one of just two hotels in Portugal awarded Three MICHELIN Keys. Blending tradition and modernity, it rises above a seaside cliff just a few kilometers from the small town of Porches. It offers every amenity and service a discerning guest could imagine—from a private beach to art classes—along with a wide-ranging culinary program that includes a restaurant with Two MICHELIN Stars. The interiors of the rooms and suites at Vinha Boutique Hotel are inspired by brands like Missoni, Hermès, and Ralph Lauren, while the bathrooms feature Bulgari amenities.
Hospitality excellence is matched by culinary distinction under the guidance of chef Henrique Sá Pessoa, who helms the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Vinha, awarded One MICHELIN Star. On the menu? Contemporary cuisine with international influences, always grounded in seasonal Portuguese ingredients.
Vila Joya (Two Keys) + Vila Joya (Two Stars)
AlbufeiraThe Algarve and its crystal-clear beaches hide a sophisticated and exclusive retreat with 14 rooms and 8 suites—almost all with sea views. Located near the center of Albufeira, Vila Joya, awarded Two MICHELIN Keys, occupies a former private residence featuring Moorish details and an atmosphere that blends the charm of a luxury hotel with the comfort of home.
It is also home to the Portuguese restaurant that has held Two MICHELIN Stars the longest. Sharing the hotel’s name, Vila Joya is led by Austrian chef Dieter Koschina, who combines the classical traditions of Central Europe with Portuguese flavors, elevated by unexpected touches in a tasting menu that changes every month.
Les Suites at The Cliff Bay – Porto Bay (Two Keys) + Il Gallo d’Oro (Two Stars + Green Star)
FunchalLocated on the outskirts of Funchal, atop a promontory overlooking the sea, the hotel comprises two restored century-old villas and a newly built modern wing. The atmosphere is luxurious, and the rooms stand out for their spaciousness, with floor-to-ceiling windows and Greek marble bathrooms.
Guests can enjoy the hotel’s infinity pool as well as all the amenities of the neighboring hotel, The Cliff Bay, home to Il Gallo d’Oro—a restaurant with Two MICHELIN Stars and One Green Star. There, chef Benoît Sinthon reimagines regional recipes with creativity, contemporary techniques, and ingredients sourced from the hotel’s own garden.
The Lince Santa Clara (Two Keys) + Oculto (One Star)
Vila do CondeOnce a 14th-century monastery, The Lince Santa Clara is now a luxury hotel with Two MICHELIN Keys. Located in Vila do Conde, the property combines the aura of its historic architecture with modern comforts and Art Deco details, such as coffered walls and white marble bathrooms.
Inside is Oculto, a restaurant awarded One MICHELIN Star. Its name—meaning “hidden”—is a nod to its literal discovery during the renovation. A previously unknown underground floor was unearthed and excavated, revealing original stone walls and vaulted brick ceilings. The refined, contemporary menu is crafted by chefs Vítor Matos and Hugo Rocha.
Bela Vista Hotel & Spa (Two Keys) + Vista (One Star)
PortimãoThis former mansion of a Portuguese industrialist is believed to have been transformed into the Algarve’s first hotel in 1934. Located in Portimão, right on Praia da Rocha—now one of the region’s top tourist destinations—the property is today a Relais & Châteaux hotel awarded Two MICHELIN Keys.
Recent renovations preserved Portuguese tiles, rugs, and some period furnishings, while adding bold colors and contemporary pieces, which also appear in the hotel’s two additional buildings. Among the many luxuries—grand piano, swimming pool, spa, and 38 carefully decorated rooms—the standout is Vista, a One MICHELIN Star restaurant. Here, chef João Oliveira celebrates Algarve’s ingredients through two tasting menus: one focused on seafood, the other entirely vegetarian.
Four Seasons Hotel Ritz Lisbon (Two Keys) + CURA (One Star) + Kabuki Lisboa (One Star)

Torel Palace Porto (One Key) + Blind (One Star)
PortoSet in the heart of Porto, the Palacete Campos Navarro, built in 1861, is now home to Torel Palace Porto, a hotel awarded One MICHELIN Key. The space was meticulously renovated by designer Isabel Sá Nogueira, who seamlessly blended a contemporary feel with historic charm. Outfitted with modern comforts, each of the hotel’s 24 rooms is named after a Portuguese writer or poet. The ambiance is as refined as the meter of Luís de Camões, and the activities offered are nearly as varied as the personas of Fernando Pessoa—from exclusive spa treatments and wine tastings to city tours and even a book club.
The hotel’s MICHELIN-Starred restaurant, Blind, takes its inspiration from author José Saramago and his novel Blindness. The dining experience is almost theatrical—there’s even the option to enjoy the inventive (and delicious) dishes by chef Rita Magro, under the direction of Vítor Matos, while blindfolded.
