MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Housed on a quaint street, 1789 is classic Georgetown—think wooden beams, antiques and fireplaces all nestled inside a historic, Federal period townhouse. The restaurant's six dining rooms, each with their own layout and décor, are spread across three floors and packed with a global, multi-generational crowd. The mood is definitely special occasion and reservations are highly coveted, so plan ahead. Chef Tracy O’Grady's menu spotlights seasonal and carefully curated American fare. Maryland crab fondue set over silky mashed potatoes and topped with uni is winningly simple; while duck breast is dressed up with a foie gras truffle for a luxe garnish. Coconut milk cream with passion fruit crèmeux is that ideal yin and yang of sweet and tart.
