On October 9, 2024, The MICHELIN Guide revealed the brand new One, Two, and Three Key distinctions for the most outstanding hotels in Germany.
This announcement comes four years into a comprehensive refresh of our hotel selection. The MICHELIN Guide now includes over 5,000 hotels across the world, and not a single one is simply a room for the night. These are places that significantly add to your experience as a traveler, each vetted and judged excellent in five categories: architecture and interior design, quality and consistency of service, overall personality and character, value for the price, and a significant contribution to the guest experience in a particular setting.
Which brings us back to the Keys. The culmination of countless hours of evaluation by our Inspectors, the Key hotels below represent the highlights of our broader selection. Like the MICHELIN Stars for restaurants, the MICHELIN Keys recognize our most outstanding hotels.
In total, the 2024 MICHELIN Guide hotel selection in Germany includes a total of 6 Three Key hotels, 36 Two Key hotels, and 80 One Key hotels. Want to know more about the MICHELIN Key? Here’s everything you need to know. Or, head below to look at all the Keys.

Germany's Three Key Club
Six properties earned our highest hotel honor in Germany: the exclusive Three Key distinction. Of these, two make their home in Baiersbronn in the heart of the Black Forest (Hotel Bareiss, Hotel Traube Tonbach), two in Hamburg (Fairmont Hotel Vier Jahreszeiten, the Fontenay), and two in Bavaria (Schloss Elmau, Seehotel Überfahrt).

The Transformations of Berlin
While many historic buildings were destroyed in the second World War, many too survived. Indeed, in this very first list of Key hotels in Berlin, we see many historic buildings repurposed as the best hotels in the city. They are buildings originally used as post offices (Hotel Telegraphenamt), private homes (Patrick Hellmann Schlosshotel), or even 19th-century prisons (Wilmina Hotel). Check out each one of these historic Key hotels in Berlin, here.

Alpine Hospitality
We’re constantly astounded at the ease and expertise with which German hoteliers handle Alpine hospitality, although it may have something to do with the sheer amount of time they’ve been practicing.
Key hotels like Romantischer Winkel and Staudacherhof date back nearly fifty years and over a hundred years, respectively, while places like Kulturhof Stanggass and Das Kranzbach offer an unashamedly modern update to the long tradition. Check out Sonnenalp Resort, Villa Sonnenhof, Das Graseck, Hanusel Hof, and Boutiquehotel Blaue Burg Falkenstein for more Alpine Keys.
