La Particulière is a boutique hotel in the true sense of the word: just eight guest rooms, eclectic design, and an intimate bar for a cozy cocktail hour. Each room has been given its own personality with a mish-mash of prints and colors; La Discrète, for example, is less discreet than its name thanks to a leopard-print headboard set against a backdrop of wallpaper inspired by Asian legends, while La Flèche takes its cues from Byzantine mosaics. There are thoughtful extras such as Clarins beauty products in the bathrooms, and some rooms come with their own private terrace.
Breakfast is served in Le Damier, a private lounge where guests are also welcome to stop by for afternoon coffee, and in the evenings the 1824 bar shakes up signature cocktails alongside a carefully curated selection of spirits and rare bottles. Cocktail hour can be followed by dinner in one of the local restaurants that surround the hotel, and the central location also places guests within easy walking of some of Caen’s main attractions such as Place Saint-Sauveur, the Abbaye aux Hommes, and Caen Castle.
