The Best Hotels in Mexico City: All the MICHELIN Keys

Every MICHELIN Key hotel in Mexico City, handpicked by our Inspectors.

The best hotels in Mexico City's vibrant hospitality scene range from opulent mansions to towering penthouses. Based on style, service and sense of place — among other factors — MICHELIN Inspectors have identified the spots worthy of One to Three MICHELIN Keys, the hotel equivalent of the MICHELIN Star.

While Mexico City awaits its first Three Key distinction, a Two Key hotel offers visitors a refined refuge in the upscale neighborhood of Polanco. Casa Polanco's ornate 1940s architecture — and terraces bursting with plant life — create an elegant, intimate retreat in what were once two private homes. The 19-room boutique now features an onsite restaurant with soaring ceilings bathed in natural light, as well as luxe rooms with custom-designed textiles and furniture that reflects the building's original architecture.

Spa treatments take place in private cabins, guests enjoy a cozy library with views of the park, and an elegant patio is the wonderful spot for a cigar and a conversation.

The collection of Mexico City's 17 One MICHELIN Key hotels is a true expression of the capital's personality — cosmopolitan, elegant and at times surprising.

In trendy, leafy Condesa, Hotel San Fernando occupies a restored 1947 apartment building just steps from cafés, wine bars and the lively Parque México. Its retro-modern interiors feature terrazzo floors and original ironwork, while mid-century rooms — some with private balconies — verge on contemporary funkiness. Few hotels capture Condesa's creative spirit so well, with locals and expats both often drawn to the charming lobby bar.

Roma, the bohemian heart and culinary capital of Mexico City, is home to two distinctive One Key properties. Nima Local House occupies a restored early 20th-century mansion that blends modern and vintage Mexican design across four elegant guest rooms and entertains guests with highly personalized service. La Valise offers a different experience entirely — eight imaginative suites, including one with its own private terrace and a rolling king bed for sleeping under the stars. Both boutiques are within walking distance of Plaza Río de Janeiro, several art galleries and multiple MICHELIN‑Starred restaurants: among them Em, Rosetta, and Máximo.

On Paseo de la Reforma — Mexico City's grandest boulevard — guests check in to the Sofitel Mexico City Reforma, praised for its French‑inspired style and vibrant social scene, best enjoyed from Cityzen, the celebrated rooftop bar on the 38th floor. Soaring suites promise spectacular views, including vistas of the golden Angel of Independence. The exclusive Club Millésime offers culinary delights and personalized concierge service. The hotel sits within walking distance of Chapultepec Park and an array of renowned museums.

In upscale Polanco, Pug Seal Allan Poe offers easy access to Mexico City's luxury shopping and fine dining. The hotel is an explosion of bold color and thoughtful design, adorned with contemporary art pieces and 24‑hour snack and beverage stations. Garden terraces provide a place to relax or to experience temazcal — the traditional sauna ritual dating back nearly 3,000 years.

For a more off‑the‑beaten‑path experience, Hacienda Peña Pobre is located in the southern district of Tlalpan, well off the usual tourist route. Set in a former 17th-century villa amid lush gardens near the Bosque de Tlalpan nature reserve, the rustic‑chic hotel features sleekly designed guest rooms and a cozy lounge ideal for charming breakfasts. The popular Coyoacán and San Ángel neighborhoods are a 15‑minute drive away, and MICHELIN‑Starred Sud 777 is just 10 minutes by car.
