Set high in the French Alps above the ski resort of Megève, Flocons de Sel is an elegant getaway with sweeping views of the valley below. It’s particularly enchanting in winter, when snow covers the landscape and open fireplaces crackle inside the boutique hotel’s wooden chalets. Guest rooms and suites are light-filled and minimalist, lined with pale wood and stone; eclectic details add alpine character, from animal hide rugs and patterned wool throws to a side table made out of a tree stump. All have bathtubs and private terraces facing the surrounding mountains, and some have wood-burning stoves. A pair of freestanding chalets offer extra privacy, with two levels of living and sleeping space. The hotel offers free shuttle service to the nearby ski lift, and afterward, access to a rustic-chic spa with a beautifully illuminated indoor pool. Chef Emmanuel Renaut presides over the extraordinary restaurant.
