In the picturesque historic center of Kraków is a hotel that’s entirely worthy of its setting: Pod Różą is a 17th-century gem, restored by its current owners to its Renaissance-era glory; its 57 rooms and suites, accordingly, vary widely in their sizes, layouts, and details, though all are true to the building’s ornate antique style, even as they allow for modern luxury-hotel comforts. Amarone, the hotel’s Italian restaurant, is Tuscan in inspiration, while the fine-dining Pod Różą serves a high-end modern Polish cuisine, and the wine cellar, in its arched vault, is a delightfully atmospheric space.
