Alaf
Located in the bustling Kuruçeşme neighbourhood, Alaf is something of a hidden gem. The décor reflects the nomadic-style cuisine served here, a unique take on traditional street food. You should definitely take the time to visit the rooftop terrace, where you will find a cocktail bar and also the kitchen. Located close to the water, this spot provides splendid views, enhanced by a wonderfully relaxed atmosphere.
Atölye
The sea, the Asian part of Istanbul and Beşiktaş' football stadium are key features of the stunning vista at Atölye. Luxury is the order of the day at this restaurant, but the beautiful views of Istanbul it offers are priceless. From mezze to barbecued fish and baklava, the wide-ranging menu pays homage to authentic Anatolian cuisine. Be sure to head to 'The Roof' for a cocktail or an appetiser, accompanied by views of the city and the pool.
Lokanta 1741
Lokanta 1741’s rooftop terrace is the perfect place for a lovely romantic evening. Subdued lighting helps create a date-night atmosphere in this secluded space, whilst outdoor heaters ensure you can sit here even in autumn. This is a great setting in which to savour a contemporary take on Turkish classics such as kakavia fish stew.
Mikla
Mikla is located on the 18th floor of the Marmara Pera hotel, at one of Istanbul’s highest points, and promises a breathtaking 360° view of the city – from the moment the lift doors open, the panorama will blow you away. From the rooftop terrace, you can admire the beauty of the Hagia Sophia and the Topkapı Palace, both illuminated at night. This gem serves food from the New Anatolian Kitchen and, like the location, the standard of the cuisine is sky high.
Mürver
This trendy rooftop restaurant draws both a local and international crowd, who come here to see and be seen. However, it is the view over the Golden Horn and the coming and going of boats on the Bosphorus that really steal the show. Sitting on the terrace with a cocktail in your hand is a magical experience, especially if you arrive just before sunset. The sight of the sun going down and the countless lights coming on across the city is unforgettable. This is a hip spot in which to savour dishes cooked over the open fire.
Nicole
The view over the colourful historical buildings of Istanbul is beguiling, and the reflection of the moon in the Bosphorus is truly spellbinding. For our inspectors, it was love at first sight! This chic restaurant is on the fourth floor of the Tomtom Suites hotel. Originally the residence of the Soeurs Garde-Malades, it is full of character. In this gorgeous setting, you can sample an original take on Turkish classics such as dolma and kazandibi.
Octo
Thanks to Octo’s location up on the ninth floor, you will see the shimmering waters of the Bosphorus whichever way you turn. The view is quite something, with stately, imposing mosques dominating the skyline. Delicacies such as Japanese ombre fish and baba au rhum are prepared here with great skill. After dessert, make your way to the cocktail bar on the 10th floor, where the DJ plays by the pool.
Spago
Dimmed lights, relaxing lounge music in the background and a breathtaking terrace, this is the place to be in good weather. At Spago, you can truly experience Istanbul’s hip, cosmopolitan side – that goes for both the setting and the food, with dishes ranging from sushi to house-made tagliolini and barbecued seafood. This glamorous rooftop of the upmarket St. Regis hotel is a wonderful showcase for Maçka Park and the Bosphorus.
Topaz
Music is at the very heart of the stylish Topaz; DJs play here daily and keep the laid-back atmosphere going at all times. This is the perfect setting for a cocktail or two from their extensive list. Thanks to its large windows, the restaurant promises a view over the Bosphorus as one of its main draws. Be sure to try the barbecued sea bass and discover the intense flavours of the Mediterranean cuisine served here.
29
Chic, elegant, breathtaking. Our inspectors were taken aback by the beauty of 29’s terrace. Thanks to its hilltop location, there is nowhere better to take in views of the Bosphorus and elegant minarets. Against this backdrop, you can enjoy a refreshing take on Turkish classics such as lamb’s liver and sea bass fillet from the barbecue. After dinner, it’s certainly worth hanging around, as the restaurant turns into a nightclub!
