MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Adam Stokes’ elegant restaurant feels like it’s been part of the Birmingham dining scene for years. It’s a luxurious place with an art deco cum retro style and below the smart cocktail bar and plush dining room the basement plays host to an open kitchen, a beautiful horseshoe chef’s table and a glass wine cave bursting with top names; there are some terrific wines available by the glass and they even offer a mini flight of Yquem.
When it comes to the food, the assured, classically based cooking has modern overtones and a subtle simplicity, and luxurious ingredients are the order of the day. A great selection of homemade breads and butters are followed by accurately prepared, well-balanced dishes, where flavours are pronounced but true to the ingredients’ natural flavours, and there are appealing contrasts in texture and taste.
