MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

The restaurant’s name comes from the Indonesian word for ‘beginnings’. The owner-chef studied various cuisines all over Japan and chose this name for his project in Kyoto. The multinational menu includes Japanese, Chinese and Southeast Asian dishes. Freshly prepared goma-dofu and coriander shiraae are standard offerings. He’s also adept at Okinawan cuisine, having lived on Ishigaki Island. It gets packed at night, so you’ll want to come early.
