From the exterior, Vienna’s stately Hotel Motto appears to be another tribute to this famous city’s storied history, but inside it offers all kinds of surprises: the theme is a modern look at classic Parisian chic, accented with Japanese and Scandinavian elements throughout. If it’s nostalgic it’s only in its glamour; this is a hotel for 21st-century guests, and features contemporary art, inventive interiors, and an atmosphere that’s anything but stuffy. There’s a wellness and fitness center offering a sauna, steam bath, and yoga and meditation as well as more athletic pursuits; the restaurant, Chez Bernard, fancies itself a punk-rock version of a Parisian bistro and bar.
