It’s comforting to know that Milanese opulence hasn’t yet reached its peak. In this spirit, we give you Palazzo Parigi, a 98-room heavyweight with innate appeal to financiers and fashionistas alike. Money talks, yes, but some would argue it sounds better when it speaks French.

Take the lobby, a sweeping overture in veined marble, imperious busts, gleaming mosaic flooring, and elaborately framed artwork, not to mention a grand staircase of the neoclassical persuasion. An appropriately grand reception after a few hours in the Brera district, we might add. From there, it’s just a few steps to the café, whose warmly backlit shelving invites guests to linger over freshly prepared cocktails, small plates, and wine aplenty. Good taste takes on a more literal meaning in the fine-dining restaurant, where Carlo Cracco’s team assembles haute-Italian plates with artistry to match the hand-painted ceiling and framed works of art.

The subtle dichotomy continues in room design — some elegant Parisian, some sleek Milanese — though a refined palette of ivory, ebony, and chestnut generally prevails. On the one hand you have 21st-century technology in the form of LCD flatscreens, docking stations, and complimentary wi-fi; on the other, the perennial draw of a private balcony and all-marble bathroom, the latter likely to house a soaking tub. Grab a suite for extra light, extra balcony, and extra closet space (this is Milan, after all).

Particularly during Fashion Week, the people-watching can be a draw unto itself. The Moroccan-styled Grand Spa should suffice to beautify even the most body-conscious guests, comprising not only an indoor upstream pool but also Technogym equipment, a sauna, a jacuzzi, and copious natural light. The best spot to show off might be the century-old garden, where traces of the hotel’s namesake, Palazzo Cramer, still persist in the Italianate fountain and mature, well-kept trees.
