Château de Fonscolombe
Of its 50 rooms, 13 are set in the landmark castle building, which means they’ve got more character (and beautiful garden views) in exchange for slightly less space. Still, this isn’t Paris — square footage is ample all the way up and down the range, and the recent renovation means up-to-date modern comforts are universal as well, including a spa occupying the old stables.
One of the best things about any chateau is the opportunity to wander acres and acres of grounds, and that’s certainly the case here. Just stick close by at mealtimes: La Table de l’Orangerie is the one-MICHELIN-Star gastronomic restaurant, and it’s supplemented by the all-day restaurant Le Temps Suspendu.

Beautiful gardens and quiet surroundings

The hotel is a chateau in a vineyard. The vast grounds are breathtakingly beautiful, complete with a chapel, stables (with a pair of donkeys), guard towers, gazebos, and piscine. Our corner suite was generous (in area and ceiling height), elegantly appointed with artisanal furniture, and with picture perfect views of the chateau grounds from three sets of windows. The multiple reading rooms, sitting rooms and library meant I could work/Zoom at odd hours (with colleagues in different time zones) in privacy in a beautiful setting.

This is a superb hotel in a fabulous setting. Faultless service and excellent food. It is secluded , yet within a short distance of many places of interest.
