There are a few names in fashion synonymous with Italy: Prada, Valentino, and, of course, Missoni. Founded in 1953, the fashion house brought whimsy and vibrancy to the runways (and the streets) with their vivid colored knits. That 'dolce vita' energy was noticed by then American VOGUE Editor Diana Vreeland, and the rest is history.
Presently, Missoni is a global powerhouse with touchpoints in over 20 countries, however, the family still retains control and most recently, is bringing a personal touch with their latest offerings. The Missoni Family Cookbook compiles family recipes and favorites for all seasons and groups large and small.
As Milan Fashion Week kicks off, we sat down with granddaughter Margherita Maccapani Missoni to chat about her signature recipe, her Milan staples, and which Missoni is most talented in the kitchen.

Who's idea was it to do the cookbook?
My brother Francesco. He wanted to share the chronicles of my family through a cookbook.The recipes in the book are familiar yet distinct. What was the goal with each recipe?
Freestyle of recipes show that innovation is a virtue, in gastronomy as well as in fashion.Who's recipe always hits with everyone? What's the story behind it?
My mom's Coq au Vin. She meticulously debones because she doesn't like for guests to have to go to the trouble of using knives. "You can eat everything with a fork," she always says, which is also in the house rules.
What's your signature dish?
Insalata all'Eoliana. It's a recipe that reminds everyone of Margherita.What's your favorite recipe from the book?

My father, he's really good at it.
What defines Milan?
What I love about Milano is that you don't have to take her for granted, you have to explore to truly love her. It's not what you catch at first impression. Hidden courtyards, underground canals and secret gardens.Which museum is your must see in Milan?
I actually have so many of them. Fondazione Prada, Palazzo Reale and Hangar Bicocca. A true gem is Museo San Fedele with a special selection of Nanda Vigo's work.Where's your hidden gem in the city?
