It's impossible not to be drawn in by this charming meyhane, a traditional tavern, where the conviviality is infectious. The terrace upstairs affords stunning views over the bay. Diners hang on the proprietor's every word as he regales them with stories about the origins of the centuries-old recipes and the foreign cultures that have shaped the cuisine. The wide selection of raki and mezze is impressive, too. Picture a medley of grape and mandarin leaves, 30 different spices and pieces of gilt-head bream fermented with vinegar in an earthenware pot. The aromatic complexity and bright acidity is simply exquisite. And then there is the intensely flavoursome lamb that melts in the mouth… Watch out, or you'll end up ordering everything on the menu!
