MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Adega may be located on a commercial strip, but its busy surrounds melt away once you step inside. Exposed wood beams, farmhouse sliding doors and wood tables dominate the scene and thereby fashion a modern-rustic appeal. There is a three-course menu, but the seven-course tasting is the best way to take stock of this husband-and-wife team's Portuguese cooking. Seafood is plentiful here-from the house favorite arroz de mariscos with shrimp, clams and mussels to the peixe do dia com espargos, a daily changing selection of fresh fish. Codfish croquettes topped with confit tomato have terrific textures with creamy centers, while caldo verde flaunts a tempting presentation. Desserts, too, are on theme and toe the line between traditional and retro.
