The word itself may not be the English language’s finest moment, but the concept of “glamping” is a universal crowd-pleaser; who wouldn’t want to get as close to nature as possible, while retaining all the comforts of a particularly lavish home? Now imagine the concept transplanted to the Maremma, on the border between Lazio and Tuscany, on a parcel of land blessed with naturally occurring hot springs. This is Terme di Vulci Glamping & Spa, where a safari-style tented camp is augmented by four natural thermal pools and a lovely spring-fed spa.

Inside the tents you’ll find a remarkably restrained version of the luxury-camp life, one that avoids the clutter of colonial kitsch and instead opts for clean, contemporary luxury of the modern Italian school. They come in one- and two-bedroom varieties, and the latter are equipped with their own private spa baths. A restaurant set in a proper permanent structure serves an intensively local and seasonal menu of modern Italian cuisine, accompanied by a capacious wine cellar. And last but not least are the spa and thermal baths, the former using Vulca products (sourced from the nearby Lake Bolsena), the latter comprising four pools, each with its own distinct color, temperature, and set of curative properties.
