At the end of Chiba’s Bōsō Peninsula, facing back towards Tokyo Bay, is The Shinra, a modern ryokan that’s been expanded with the addition of a mid-rise tower, offering unparalleled views up and down the coastline. Every room, whether in the original building or in the tower, has a view out to sea, as well as a balcony and an open-air spring-fed bath. Some of the finest views are reserved for the public onsen, set 50 meters above sea level; the seafood-focused restaurant features open-kitchen teppanyaki cooking in a dining room surrounded by lush forest.
