Built around a mineral spring, Kempinski Grand Hotel des Bains first opened its doors to European high society in 1864. The healing waters are still a draw — this luxury hotel now features an ultramodern spa supplied by the natural water source, complete with an elegant indoor pool and a range of saunas and baths — but the lavish hotel feels like a destination in itself. Positioned in the lush alpine setting of St. Moritz, it resembles a grand Italian palazzo with romantic turrets and cheerful blue shutters that match the sky. Inside, several sophisticated restaurants and bars, including the gourmet restaurant Cà d’Oro, serve everything from high tea with Swiss patisserie to high-end Mediterranean cuisine beneath the glow of chandeliers.
