The ile in question here is Noirmoutier, an island on the Atlantic coast of France that’s famous for, among other things, a highly prized variety of potato. It’s also famous for the 12th-century Château de Noirmoutier, and it’s just outside of its fortified walls that you’ll find L’Ile Ô Château, a classic building that’s in its first decade of life as a surprisingly contemporary boutique hotel, decorated in a maritime style with a monochromatic modern edge. There’s a heated pool, a lovely breakfast, and the option to rent a bike to tour this charming and unique island town.
