Modern Design 和 Lively
Moritosha is a different kind of art hotel; not one dedicated to an expensive collection of rare artworks, but one dedicated to Mingei, the folk craft movement known as “the art of the people.” The building was once a training facility built by one of the movement’s woodworkers, and today is a museum, a café, and a shop, as well as a unique small hotel.
The rooms are simple, almost ascetic in their equipment; comfortable, but minimalist rather than luxurious. Each one contains Mingei-crafted objects; the triple room features a leather chair used by the hotel’s builder, Keiichi Yasukawa. Meanwhile the café serves breakfast and light fare throughout the day; for dinner, guests venture out into Nanto’s walkable city center.
