Colonial charm meets retro chic at Maison Celeste, an art-focused boutique hotel and gallery in Mexico City’s hip Roma Norte neighborhood. Many of the mansion’s historic details have been carefully preserved, from the original hardwood flooring and vaulted ceilings to the elegant crown moldings and colorful stained glass panels. But instead of living rooms or lounges, the minimalist ground-level rooms house permanent and rotating exhibitions, pop-shops, and stylish event spaces. There’s a lot of action here, especially during festivals like Mexico City Art Week, and the rooms upstairs are often booked well in advance.

Each of the five is decorated in a single colorway, like ocher or pistachio, and features designer finishes, vintage pieces, and furnishings crafted by local artisans. The striking Celeste room features curved cobalt-blue armchairs arranged in a circle, conversation pit-style, while the moss-green Musgo room has a botanical theme and midcentury modern decor. The emerald-hued Alba room has two bedrooms connected by a third room; with a plush sofa, an antique dining set, and a built-in wraparound desk, it’s ideal for longer stays. A sleek Japanese eatery is a fixture at Maison Celeste, and with various creative collaborations going on at any given moment, there’s plenty more to eat, drink, see, and buy on the premises.
