Modern Design 和 Quiet
Maison Brummell Majorelle’s neighborhood is best known for the century-old Majorelle Gardens, famously saved from the hands of real estate developers by Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé. Like the gardens, this eight-room boutique hotel is a bold tribute to Moroccan style, featuring a mix of Arab architectural elements, Moorish archways, and local artisan traditions. It rises up behind terrazzo walls like a modernist sandcastle, its interiors spare and sculptural with smooth stone flooring, tadelakt walls, Italian-made suspension lamps, brass details, and designer furnishings.
Leading up from the ground level is a staircase that looks like it was carved out of a massive rock. Rooms, divided into two categories, come with either a small deck or a private garden with an outdoor tub. Lined in pale stone, with built-in lounge seating and bespoke wooden furniture, they’re calm and framed by foliage. The Marrakech medina finds its echoes in old-world elements like alcoves inspired by mashrabiya screens, which traditionally allowed women to look outside without being seen from the street. Indeed, thanks to the innovative layout by architects Bergendy Cooke and Amine Abouraoui, it’s easy to forget that other people are staying here.
The communal areas on the lower level, however, offer ample space for relaxing in the company of others. In addition to some lovely gardens, an outdoor swimming pool, and sun-filled courtyard terraces, the hotel has a marble hammam with an indoor plunge pool and a heated stone block for Moroccan body treatments. A picturesque breakfast spread, complete with traditional pastries and mint tea, is served inside or out, depending on the weather, and the Chimney Room, with a fireplace and modular sofas, is the spot for a nightcap from the honesty bar.
