Even among stiff competition in Madrid, the VP Plaza España Design stands out. It’s a rare high-rise hotel, and it does much to justify its high profile; its public spaces are short of monumental, beginning with the liquid-metal sculpture that dominates its atrium, and its rooms are handsomely glossy and suitably luxurious, outfitted with luxe details like rain showers and L’Occitane bath products. The views from within the accommodations are impressive enough, but the finest ones are reserved for the rooftop pool and for Gingko, the top-floor restaurant and bar, which is one of the neighborhood’s hottest tickets.
