One of two Fufu luxury inns in the Karuizawa area, Fufu Kyu-Karuizawa Seiyou No Mori stands by the side of the picturesque Kumoba Pond, surrounded by the lush greenery that gives it its unofficial name, “restful forest” — not a remote location, exactly, but one that’s nevertheless capable of providing some thoroughly refreshing immersion in nature. Underfloor heating and modern wood stoves keep the rooms warm, and the hot spring baths certainly don’t hurt either. The architecture and design are stylish and modern, as is the Fufu custom; the restaurant serves artfully prepared and impeccably sourced Shinshu-style dishes.
