Hotel Li Finistreddi

Not many Sardinian hotels can offer a private transfer via helicopter from the airport at Olbia; then again not many Sardinian hotels are as unapologetically upscale as Li Finistreddi. From its hilltop perch it’s got a commanding view of its corner of the island, taking in a panorama that includes the Costa Smeralda and the Maddalena islands. And with a mere 19 rooms it operates on a scale that can only ever be tranquil — you come here for seclusion, rather than stimulation, and it’s fair to say Li Finistreddi delivers.

Its rooms and suites are divided among a small handful of low-slung villas, all of them with private entrances and private balconies or terraces, some with plunge pools. The most desirable ones face out to sea, though if yours doesn’t, you’ll have every opportunity to catch a glimpse from elsewhere on the property — and for a close-up view there’s a shuttle connecting Li Finistreddi with a beach club at Barca Bruciata. Meanwhile, on site, there’s a small but lavish spa, a bar serving the two pool terraces, and a restaurant, La Grotta, serving Sardinian cuisine and local wine on a veranda with a view of the sea.
