The comically picturesque seaside town of Castellammare del Golfo provides the raw material for Costamante Suites & Spa: an 18th-century mansion restored in the inimitable modern-classic collage style perfected by Italian hoteliers and transformed into a seven-suite luxury boutique hotel. It’s a form perhaps less common in Sicily, where seaside resorts and farmhouse hotels predominate, but it’s one with much to recommend it.

Each suite is different, all of them inspired by the twists and turns of the historical structure; all come with kitchens, for the added privacy of a self-sufficient stay. The spa is an impressive one, given the hotel’s small size, and a typically Sicilian breakfast is provided daily — for lunch and dinner the town of Castellammare fills the gap.
