Our Habitas on Hudson
The Hudson Valley has seen quite a few hotel openings, but few as ambitious as Habitas-on-Hudson, a high-end country-house hotel of a type that’s perhaps more familiar to English luxury-hotel travelers. It’s the work of the same Habitas group known for rustic, nature-oriented hotels as far-flung as Tulum and Saudi Arabia, but this one, two hours up the river from Manhattan, is perfectly localized, and feels specifically tailored to upstate New York.
The rooms are more minimalist-rustic-chic than country-house precious, and many are named for literary figures, from the Brontë sisters to Maya Angelou. Some are set in the original Manor house, while others occupy outlying buildings; the suites, in the Stonehouse, have outdoor terraces for a direct interface with nature.
That connection with the natural world is half of what Habitas is trying to accomplish — the other half is a connection between people, which is the motivation for the group-focused activities, from nature walks to musical performances and educational opportunities. And there’s no place more social than Social, Habitas-on-Hudson’s restaurant, where locally sourced seasonal dishes are served family-style, accompanied by local beers and wines from the adjoining Pub.
