MICHELIN Guide Taipei, Taichung, Tainan & Kaohsiung, 2022 Star Revelation

Mandarin Oriental, Taipei

After the uncertainty of the past two years, it is timely to reunite in strength as Michelin proudly announces the Star selection of the MICHELIN Guide Taipei, Taichung, Tainan and Kaohsiung. The MICHELIN Guide 2022 Star Revelation Press Conference and Gala Dinner event will officially take place on 30 August 2022 at the Mandarin Oriental, Taipei. The 2022 edition also marks the addition of two new cities, Tainan and Kaohsiung, to the restaurant selection.

On this star-studded night, a magnificent six-course dinner will be presented by three local chefs whose hometowns are from different parts of the island, including Taichung, Pintung, and Yilan; and three international chefs who are based locally, celebrating the diversity of the local gastronomy scene making the destination a vibrant hub for professionals from all over the world.

The local chefs are Kai Ho from 2-MICHELIN-starred Taïrroir (Taipei), Yang Kuang Tsung from 1-MICHELIN-starred Tien Hsiang Lo (Taipei) and Chen Yung-Hua from 1-MICHELIN-starred Mipon (Taipei). They are joined by Singaporean chef Jimmy Lim from 2-MICHELIN-starred JL Studio (Taichung), Japanese chef Ryogo Tahara from 2-MICHELIN-starred Logy (Taipei), and Hong Kong-born chef Cheung Kwok Pong from 1-MICHELIN-starred Ya Ge (Taipei). The dishes will pay tribute to flavours and native ingredients from across the island, while drawing inspiration from iconic local street food.

Bib Gourmand Announcement
The much-loved Bib Gourmand selection, which lists restaurants offering ‘good quality, good value cooking’, will be released on 23 August, one week prior to the Star Revelation ceremony.

The selection criteria for Bib Gourmand and MICHELIN Stars adhere to a global standard where anonymous Michelin inspectors review all cuisines, and evaluate only the quality of the dishes. All establishments are chosen according to the same five criteria used by Michelin inspectors around the world: quality of the ingredients used; mastery of cooking techniques; the harmony of the flavours; expression of the chef’s personality in the cuisine; and consistency, both over time and across the entire menu. Location, décor, service and available facilities are not part of the selection criteria.
