Ansitz Steinbock

Vicolo Franz Via Defregger 14, Villandro, Italy
12 Rooms
Contemporary Classic & Quiet
Ansitz Steinbock comes by its stone walls honestly. This sturdy structure’s foundations were laid in the 13th century, and while it’s been thoroughly renovated by hotelier Elisabeth Rabensteiner, its historical aspect is the first thing you’ll notice. The setting is the mountain village of Villandro, or Villanders, not far from Bolzano; the cuisine in the eponymous fine dining restaurant is pure South Tyrol, accompanied by Alto Adige wines.

And the suites are as handsome as can be; though they retain features like original timbers and eccentric floor plans, they’re furnished with luxurious modern pieces and decorated with a keen, style-conscious eye. As for the destination, it needs little introduction — safe to say if it can be done in the mountains, it can be done within a fairly small radius around Villandro, as the seasons permit.
