Traditional Elegance & Quiet
With a name like “King’s Garden” you might expect a regal vibe from Hotel Kungsträdgården, and that’s what you’ll get. This stately 18th-century building wears its Gustavian style proudly, and while in its current incarnation it’s a thoroughly modern luxury boutique hotel, it’s as far as it gets from minimalism — a 2010 renovation updated its classic opulence with a contemporary color sense and the full complement of modern comforts.

The rooms and suites range widely in size, in classic European grand-hotel style, and if there’s a touch of a French accent about the aesthetic, it’s matched by the cuisine in Brasserie Makalös, which serves Parisian fare in a soaring courtyard space, while the adjacent Crystal Bar stands beneath what must be Stockholm’s largest chandelier. Meanwhile, the Royal Opera is steps from the hotel’s front door, with the Royal Palace and the Nobel museum not much farther.
