Contemporary Classic & Quiet
The historic village of Kapsaliana, built around an old olive mill and surrounded by Crete’s largest olive grove, was all but abandoned in the 1950s. Years later, a local architect discovered the place and transformed it into a luxury resort. Kapsaliana Village Hotel has plenty of period charm — the village’s 18th-century buildings, now housing rooms and suites, feature original stone archways and wood-beamed ceilings — and smart, stylish amenities for modern travelers, including a pretty swimming pool framed by flowers, a lemon tree-shaded cocktail bar on a beautiful stone terrace, and farm-to-table Cretan cuisine prepared in an open-air kitchen. Round out the experience with a tasting of local wines, a stroll through the orchard, and a visit to the on-site olive oil museum.
