Modern Design & Lively
It’s important to remember that Mitte’s melting-pot ambience has room for more than just the hostel-hoppers and urban-decay enthusiasts. Naturally, hotels needn’t apply in Berlin without some measure of aesthetic acrobatics, but that hardly precludes a clean-cut, spacious, business-class hotel like Titanic Chaussee Berlin.
The avant-garde certainly has its say in the public spaces: wandering from reception’s angular, polished geometry to the atrium lobby, you’ll encounter an arresting assemblage of swank seating, planters, and arc floor lamps fronting the elevator bank. That semi-organic, mixed-media treatment, a sculpturally abstracted lily pond, primes the eye for the guestrooms upstairs; this is no individually decorated boutiquelet at over 375 rooms, of course, but you won’t forget you’re in Berlin, either. Luxe bedding, soundproofed windows, and full-length drapes promise a sound night’s sleep, while the preponderance of houndstooth among a gunmetal-and-goldenrod palette give you something worthwhile to wake up to. Then a rainforest shower, then an in-room espresso while gazing out over the neighborhood’s eclectic rooftops. Talk about “good morning.”
The patisserie should help with that, we imagine, or you can opt for more substantial breakfast fare at à Alesta. You’ll want to fortify yourself with Sicilian specialties at à Pascarella if you’re here for Mitte’s renowned club scene, perhaps paired with a pregame something-or-other at Charlotte, the chic lobby bar. Failing that, indulge a leisurely session at Befine spa — Titanic’s Turkish origins reveal themselves everywhere throughout this massive, Ottoman-inflected complex, complete with a massive, skylit indoor pool, a fully equipped gym, and state-of-the art hammam and steam-room facilities.
