Contemporary Classic & Lively
Walk down any street in Bangkok, and it’s the colors that get you: the colorful signs and awnings, the red and blue taxis, a seemingly omnipresent shade of teal popping out at you everywhere you look. The modern interiors at the Siam@Siam Design Hotel, in the heart of downtown Bangkok, are as colorful as the city itself — but whittled down to bold splashes of red, orange, and gold to contrast more sedate neutrals. Design-wise, there’s a lot going on, from the lobby to the rooftop, but it fits the frenetic vibe of the city.
This hotel just feels the way Bangkok should. (But if you’re looking for something a little more muted, check out the heritage rooms — still modern in execution, they’re styled as an homage to traditional Thai design.) There are a wide range of room options to suit just about every type of traveler, from business executives to honeymooners to travel buddies. Upgrade to the grand biz class rooms, and you’ll not only guarantee yourself a spectacular perch over Bangkok, but you’ll also gain access to the executive lounge on the 22nd floor, which includes business facilities, breakfast and snacks, and high tea and happy hour each day.
While we’re on the subject of food: you have a number of options when you stay at Siam@Siam, including a wine bar, an all-day international restaurant, and a French restaurant and bar. But once the sun goes down and the humidity dulls a bit, head straight to the rooftop restaurant with its 360-degree panorama of the bright lights and skyscrapers of downtown Bangkok — you’d be hard pressed to find dinner with a better view anywhere in this city (although the outdoor infinity pool about halfway up the building comes close). But if you prefer to see Bangkok from ground level, this is a good home base: You’re just a couple blocks from the national stadium and many of the city’s best restaurants and shopping malls.
