Where to Eat and Stay in Doha’s West Bay

Explore this modern, upscale district where the city comes to work and play.

Doha’s West Bay rises like a modern mirage at the edge of the Arabian Gulf, made up of the striking silhouettes of skyscrapers and sandy white beaches lined by palm trees. By day, the neighborhood is a buzzing business and cultural hub home to key headquarters, ministries and a collection of museums. As the sun sets, West Bay takes on a new life, filled with gastronomes trying out new fine dining concepts and guests retreating to luxury hotels after a day of exploring.

“West Bay is where Doha’s skyline was born,” says Massimiliano Binda, managing director of The Ned Doha. “It represents the country’s modern ambition with soaring glass towers, embassies and high-end offices, yet its foundations are rooted in tradition. It remains closely tied to landmarks like Souq Waqif, the Museum of Islamic Art, and of course, the Corniche, which links the city’s heritage to its contemporary expression.”

The ideal spot for both business and pleasure, Doha’s West Bay is never short of things to see and experience. Stroll along the Doha Corniche and feast your eyes on architectural marvels, such as the iconic bullet-shaped Burj Doha, decorated with Islamic latticework. Elsewhere, the Tornado Tower spirals skyward while the nearby Doha Exhibition and Convention Center stands out with its sleek, blade-like roof.

“When I first got to the neighborhood there was a lot of construction happening,” shares Mauro Colagreco, acclaimed chef and owner of MICHELIN-selected restaurant MURU. “Many buildings were coming to life, and my first impression was that there was a whole new area growing and that it would be great to be part of this new life in the city.”

Beyond its eye-catching façade, West Bay’s cultural and leisure attractions are equally impressive. Head to Katara Cultural Village, where the national orchestra, planetarium and traditional Arab music performances provide a deep dive into regional artistry. For those seeking retail therapy, Galeries Lafayette presents the latest collections by international and local designers, while the nearby Qatar National Theater brings stories to life through local productions and screenings.

Still relatively new to Doha’s dining scene, MURU serves contemporary bites inspired by the natural elements. “MURU means the seed of all creations, so we’ve designed it as a tribute to nature’s alchemic power,” reflects Colagreco. “It is a space where the elements converge with cultural artistry, awakening the senses and fostering deep connection. At MURU, we invite our guests to embark on a multi-sensory journey through the Four Elements: fire, water, earth and air.”

Located on the fifth floor of the Waldorf Astoria West Bay, the sensory journey begins from the moment you step inside. Every inch of the restaurant is draped in foliage and bathed in soft lighting while the windows reveal a glimpse of the ocean. “I wanted to create a place where guests can celebrate life with good service, good music, good vibes, and of course, great food,” Colagreco adds.

As for the menu, diners can expect everything from ceviche to tiraditos, all carefully crafted to evoke the essence of each element. Incorporating diverse flavors and cooking techniques, chefs utilize a distinctive Asado grill to infuse dishes with smoky depth, while meats and fish are transformed at the in-house curing chambers.
