MICHELIN Guide’s Point Of View

Though i-Suite has no official connection to the makers of those various i-Devices with which we’re all familiar, we could be forgiven for thinking that the future, if Rimini’s intently forward-looking experiment in hotel design is any indication, will be brought to us by a certain design-oriented tech company. Rounded edges in a palette of fresh-from-the-factory white and gleaming chrome abound. Plastic is the material of choice here, and though it’s not the last and only word in interior designer Simone Michell’s vocabulary, it seems to inform all the rest. Even the concrete, whether in the bowling-ball-smooth floors or the undulating exterior walls, suggests plasticity.

It’s no surprise that the future also has a lot of glowing screens in store. All of the rooms include LCD TVs that serve as PCs and entertainment systems, many of them mounted in places you might not expect — in a mirror, in the bathroom, or in the case of the Life suites, fixed to the ceiling above the bed. Then there are the screensaver-worthy views of the Adriatic through large picture windows, often set behind remote-operated curtains that lend additional drama to a gaze out the window. Opt for the “Lover’s” version of the Dolce Vista suite and you can enjoy views of a different sort; the room comes with a cocoon-like Corian bathtub in the center of the room.

The entire sixth floor of the building is occupied by a spa wrapped in curved windows with yet more sea views. You’ll want to get well buffed for a trip to the LED-lit, indoor-outdoor pool, or for a night out at Rimini’s many bars. Visitors have been partying here for the past 150 years or so, and the i-Suite suggests a future that’s every bit as lively.

How to get there: i-SUITE is approximately 15 minutes by taxi from Federico Fellini Airport Rimini.
