Hotel Die Sonne Frankenberg

A scenic stop on the Deutsche Märchenstraße, or German Fairy Tale Route, Frankenberg is known for its 500-year-old, ten-towered town hall. Right next door is Hotel Die Sonne Frankenberg, a luxury hotel housed in a trio of beautifully restored 16th-century buildings. Each has its own character — one was a brewery, one a wine shop, and another a civic auditorium — but they’ve been unified into one sophisticated property with modern suites, a spa, and several bars and restaurants, including one with a Michelin star.

The coziest suites have exposed timber ceilings, separate living rooms, and spacious bathrooms with tubs. Slightly larger rooms feature four-poster beds, bay windows, and fireplaces, and the grandest suites are more like apartments, with fully equipped kitchens, dining rooms, and reading nooks. All of the hotel’s suites are sun-filled and quiet, and many have views over the market square below. In addition to its popular dining venues, Hotel Die Sonne Frankenberg also offers a few amenities exclusively for guests: an elegant breakfast room where a lavish buffet is served each morning, and the fireplace-warmed Philippo Lounge, named after the medieval sculptor who carved the town hall’s iconic wooden figures.
