The neoclassical façade that Rotterdam’s Hotel Âme presents to the world does little to prepare you for what’s inside. This is a boutique hotel inspired neither by the 19th century nor by modern Dutch design but by a timeless marriage of Japanese and Scandinavian aesthetics, a tranquil space that restores the spiritual dimension to the practice of minimalis. Its 14 rooms vary widely in size and style but are unified in their approach, and are as comfortable as they are easy on the eye. Downstairs you’ll find a café serving Shokunin coffees and ceramics made by the hotel’s co-founder, as well as a concept store stocking many of the items and products used in the hotel.
