MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2022 Set For Release on 19 January 2022

Michelin is pleased to announce today the annual edition of the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong and Macau 2022 will be released in a virtual award ceremony on 19 JANUARY 2022 at 3 pm Hong Kong time. For the second year, it will be digitally live streamed via MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong and Macau’s official Facebook page as well as the regional MICHELIN Guide Asia YouTube channel.

Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guides, will reveal the restaurants selected in the 14th edition of the Hong Kong and Macau Guide, as well as share some words of hope for chefs and restaurateurs for a promising 2022 after a difficult year. “The restaurant industry in Hong Kong and Macau has once again shown it’s resiliency and dynamism after a challenging 2021,” commented Mr. Poullennec.

“Their ability to innovate despite the circumstances makes this community a special one. And to see the emerging talent and trends coming out of the region in the face of such obstacles should give hope to those around the world that great things are to come, something truly worth celebrating.”

In addition to MICHELIN Star restaurants, the event will also announce the Bib Gourmand selections, which are awarded to venues that serve good quality and good value cuisine. The criteria is that the restaurants offer three courses (drinks not included) for a maximum price of 400 Hong Kong dollars (in Hong Kong) or 400 Pataca de Macau (in Macau).

The MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong and Macau was first established in 2009 and continues to serve as the essential reference for foodies in Hong Kong, Macau, and around the world, bringing them the best of what local culinary experts have to offer. The selection criteria for MICHELIN selected restaurants, including Bib Gourmand and MICHELIN Starred are a global standard by which Michelin inspectors review all kinds of restaurants, and focusing only on the quality of the culinary experience.

Therefore, all establishments are chosen according to the same five criteria used by Michelin inspectors around the world: quality of the ingredients; mastery of cooking techniques; harmony of the flavours; expression of the chef’s personality in the cuisine; and consistency, both over time and across the entire menu. Location, décor, service and available facilities are not part of the selection criteria, but are denoted through a range of other pictograms in the guides.
