Modern Cantonese Restaurant Duddell’s To Open In London This Fall

The two-Michelin-starred restaurant is exporting their signature mix of art and authentic Cantonese cuisine to the heart of London Bridge.

Founded in 2013, Duddell's has made a name for itself in Hong Kong by combining high-quality Cantonese food with innovative cocktails and a strong line-up of art programmes. Now, the popular modern Cantonese restaurant concept comes to London this Autumn, and will call the historic St. Thomas Church in the English city its new home. 

“With the impact that Duddell’s Hong Kong has made internationally through its food, design and art, it made sense to explore other key destinations where the market would appreciate our concept. When the opportunity of such an interesting site came up in London, and interested partners, we of course pursued it,” says Yenn Wong, CEO of JIA Group that currently manages 10 popular restaurants in Hong Kong including Duddell’s.

Moving into a Historic Building 

The new location of Duddell's London, St Thomas Church, is recognised as one of the most significant examples of Queen Anne architecture in the city. Getting permission to convert the London heritage site was a real challenge. "It takes time and patience," shares Wong.

Modern yet Authentic Cantonese Cuisine 

As with Hong Kong, Duddell’s London will also be serving up hand-crafted dim sum and authentic Cantonese cuisine. Daren Liew, the former executive sous chef at Hakkasan Limited London, will be helming the overseas kitchen. With 20 years of experience under his belt, the food will be prepared only with the best ingredients possible.

There will also be a destination bar featuring a spirited list of old and new world wines, with bartenders to conjure up classic and innovative craft cocktails with an oriental twist. 

The much anticipated restaurant will seat 110 persons, with a mezzanine level offering dining space overlooking the restaurant and a design that maximise the daylight and the heritage elements of the building.

A Strong Line-up of Art Programmes 

To mark the debut of the site, the new space will run a pop-up multi-media exhibition from mid June to mid July, putting Hong Kong-based artist Nadim Abbas in the spotlight.

“Duddell’s London is thrilled to be presenting our arts programme for the first time in the UK, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment towards global initiatives,” says Kylie Ying, co-host for the opening art event.

Works on the restaurant will start once the exhibition closes. 

As with Hong Kong, Duddell's London will also be a destination for foodies and art lovers alike.
