Der Zauberlehrling means “Sorcerer's Apprentice” in German, a hint that you’re in for something out of the ordinary at this boutique hotel in Stuttgart’s lively cultural district of Mitte. Rooms and suites are all thoroughly unique, each based on a theme, and the design ranges from eclectic — animal prints, free-standing copper bathtubs, wooden sinks, retro waterbeds — to avant-garde, as in the Media Suite, with inflatable metallic furniture and an XBox One next to a fireplace. Amenities vary, though they’re high-end across the board, including Sonos sound systems and showers designed by Philippe Starck. Many feature private patios with views over the city.
