Surrounded by 17 acres of Kent woodland, The Beacon sits above what was once known as Happy Valley, a hillside of spring-fed lakes and pleasure gardens that drew visitors in the 18th century. Built in the 1890s, the house later sheltered Basque refugees and Jewish children during the war before becoming a disco, a pub, and eventually a family home. Its seven bedrooms are richly detailed, with velvet curtains, turret bathtubs, and views that stretch across the Kent hills. The setting is peaceful, the welcome sincere, and the view worth pausing for.
