Contemporary Classic & Lively
Budapest is a city that’s justifiably proud of its long and colorful history. And the Hotel Rum is similarly proud of its setting in a 19th-century apartment building in a central location in the Inner City on the Pest side of the Danube River. But there’s a difference between pride and reverence, and as proud as the Rum is of its architectural inheritance, it’s not afraid to put its own stamp on the place. This is every inch a contemporary boutique hotel, and an accessible one at that, mixing modern post-industrial style with ornate antique atmosphere, all at a price point that means, to put it bluntly, that its audience is actually young enough to appreciate the combination.

The design comes courtesy of a team of local architects and designers, which lends it a pleasingly unique aspect. Hotel Rum is refreshingly willing to call its basic rooms small — they’re best thought of as singles, or very cozy doubles — and you’ll quickly work your way up to king beds, rain showers, and Nespresso machines. Toprum, the rooftop restaurant and bar, serves internationally inspired fare and a variety of wine and spirits — not just rum — with an impressive view of the city center.
