Shiinamachi is a district indelibly associated with Tokiwaso, the communal home of many now-famous manga artists. Matsunozushi is a classic neighbourhood sushi shop, in true Edo style. White fish is marinated in kombu kelp, silver-skinned fish in vinegar; Tiger prawn is meshed with oboro (fish floss); kanpyo (dried gourd strips) is simmered to a salty sweetness. Old-school craftsmanship, the pride the cooks take in their work, and the authentic atmosphere all add flavours of their own.
